Get Setup On Basecamp In Just 15 Minutes

A quick start guide to setting up your Basecamp, adding your first customer, and managing your deals & tasks.

Task Management

Tasks keep work connected to your records.

Create and manage tasks from contact, company, and deal profiles. Use labels, priorities, owners, stages, subtasks, and recurrence to keep everything on track.

Viewing Tasks on Profiles

  • Open any Contact, Company, or Deal profile.

  • Use the Tasks area to:

    • Filter: Tasks assigned to you vs. all tasks related to that record.

    • Scan status, due dates, labels, owners, and stages.

Creating Tasks

  1. Click Add Task from a profile or the global Tasks button.

  2. Complete the form and click save.

Recurring Tasks

Automate routines with recurrence:

  • Daily

  • Weekly on specific days

  • Monthly

  • Yearly

Set an optional end condition (e.g. repeat X times).

When you complete a recurring task, the next occurrence is scheduled automatically.

Editing Tasks

Open a task to:

  • Live-edit fields (title, description, due date, labels, etc.)

  • Review a change log that records what changed and when

  • Attach files for reference

  • Create subtasks to break down work

  • Collaborate with your team using the comments section.

Subtasks

Every task can have subtasks. Subtasks have their own status, files, and details.

Subtask relationships are visible on both the task and its subtasks.

Collaboration

Comments and @mentions:

  • Discuss work in context.

  • Mention teammates to notify them and deep-link them into the task.

Notifications:

  • Mentioned users receive a notification and can jump directly to the task.

Personal Tasks

When creating tasks from the dashboard, tasks slideover menu, you have the option to mark it as a personal task.

Personal tasks are only visible by yourself, and are great for tasks you don;t wan't anyone else to see.

When creating a task in a personal project (see below), you tasks are automatically marked as personal.

Projects

Projects group related tasks, files, and people to help you deliver a larger goal or organise your personal tasks.

Think “Q1 Goals”, “Website Redesign”, or “Product Launch”.

Project Types

When creating a project, choose its visibility:

  • Public projects: Visible to everyone in your organisation.

  • Private projects: Invite-only. Only invited members and the business owner can see them.

  • Personal projects: Private to you. All tasks inside are visible only to you.

Creating a Project

  1. Click Create Project.

  2. Select the type (Public, Private, or Personal).

  3. Name your project (e.g. “Q1 Goals”).

  4. Click Create.

Project Views

  • Board view: Kanban-style columns (stages) for tasks in this project.
Drag and drop tasks between stages, similar to deal pipelines.

  • List view: A sortable, searchable list of the project’s tasks.

  • Activity logs: A timeline of project updates, notes, and changes.

Use Board for flow, List for details, and Logs for audit/history.

  • Description: Add context and scope; supports rich text formatting.

  • Files: Upload reference docs, briefs, assets, and deliverables.
